March 3, 2010: Jeff Reckseidler / Jerry Levin

In an e-Book titled “Bootstrappers” author and business strategy maven Seth Godin wrote:

“What’s a great idea? Something that’s never been done before. Something that takes your breath away. Something so bold, so daring, so right, that you are certain it’s worth a bazillion dollars. An idea you need to keep secret.” And that although a great idea feels so right, he continues on to say, “Great ideas can kill you.”

A great idea becomes a distraction. It creates a fog in the creator’s psyche that won’t allow them to create an objective view on the opportunity. The idea owner becomes so focused on doing everything they can to manifest and bring it to life that they often do not take the time to analyze, assess and understand the potential demand and market dynamics that are in play. They simply assume the market will come to them. Why wouldn’t they – it’s a “killer idea!”

Based on our experience, our knowledge (spread across many industry norms) and quite a few years of trial and error, we find that the passion to the original, driving (some might say “blinding”) concept prevents an analysis of the kind of critical changes and alterations that inevitably must accompany the launch of any new product or service. Adaptability and the flexibility to change on a dime when the evidence and the scattered returns first appear are the key elements of potential success.

At Connectivity, we want your idea to succeed. We come from the angle of the consumer and explore how to manage the value chain for a business. Understanding “who,” “how much” and “where” allow us to craft alignment strategies that a business can use to move forward and create successful products, services and businesses that customers truly need.

Our assembled team have seen first-hand the time, energy and effort it takes to launch a company or a consumer brand. Successfully and unsuccessfully. We’ve experienced sensational highs and lows. We’ve accumulated some battle scars along the way. But through our collective experience, we’ve built a process for the analysis of emerging or existing businesses and their respective marketplace opportunities to give ideas their best chance to succeed.

We are Connectivity. Contact us to learn how we can help connect you with the tools to achieve success.
